Trocadero de Las Botes Rooftop Bar

A stylish beachfront spot in Málaga, Trocadero Casa de Botes offers Mediterranean cuisine, ocean views, and laid-back luxury on Playa de la Malagueta.

Trocadero Casa de Botes occupies a prime waterfront position at the end of Muelle Uno, offering dual views of the marina and Playa de la Malagueta beach from its stylish Botanico rooftop terrace.

This upscale venue is open to everyone and has become a favourite among Malaga's well-heeled locals and discerning visitors alike.

What makes it special is the combination of seriously good Mediterranean-Asian fusion cuisine, impeccable service, and that feeling of laid-back luxury that's hard to find elsewhere in the city.

Best For

  • Couples seeking a chic lunch or sunset dinner by the water
  • Food lovers craving Mediterranean-Asian fusion in a stylish setting
  • Locals and travellers who appreciate great design, sea views, and attentive service
  • Groups looking to gather over seafood and cocktails with a backdrop of yachts
  • Fans of upscale beachside dining without leaving the city

Not Ideal For

  • Party-goers expecting DJs, dancing, or a nightlife-focused scene
  • Budget travellers. The menu reflects its prime location and quality
  • Those looking for quiet rooftop seclusion
  • Guests seeking kid-specific entertainment

The Vibe

This is laid back but definitely upscale. Expect to rub shoulders with yacht owners, local business types, and the who's who of Malaga's social scene when sipping on cocktails here. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between relaxed and refined, never stuffy but always polished.

The design is sleek and contemporary with botanical touches that give the Botanico terrace its name. Think clean lines, natural materials, and carefully curated decor that photographs beautifully without feeling try-hard. The attention to service is evident from the moment you arrive.

The crowd shifts throughout the day. Lunches tend to be leisurely affairs with families and business lunches, while evenings attract a more glamorous set, especially during sunset hours when the light over the marina is at its most magical. Live DJs add to the atmosphere without overpowering conversation.

  • Friday - Saturday: 12:00 - 01:00

Menu & Prices

Drinks

The cocktail menu is creative and well-executed, with signature drinks in the 12-16 euro range. There's an extensive wine list featuring Spanish and international selections, with glasses starting around 6-8 euros. Premium champagne and spirits are available for those celebrating.

Food

The menu is pricey but thoughtfully presented, featuring Mediterranean-Asian fusion that makes the most of fresh seafood and quality ingredients. Expect starters around 14-22 euros, main courses between 24-45 euros, and sharing platters designed for groups.

The seafood is particularly noteworthy, with options ranging from fresh oysters to elaborately prepared fish dishes. Sushi and Asian-inspired plates sit alongside more traditional Mediterranean fare. It's the kind of menu where you're paying for quality, location, and the elegance of the experience.

The View & Seating

From the Botanico rooftop, you have your pick of two spectacular views: the marina with its parade of yachts on one side, and Playa de la Malagueta beach stretching out on the other. It's one of the few spots in Malaga where you can enjoy both simultaneously.

Seating options include:

  • Relaxed loungers perfect for whiling away a sunny afternoon
  • High-top tables ideal for drinks before heading out
  • Comfortable dining tables for full meals
  • Prime waterfront positions with unobstructed views
  • Shaded areas for those escaping the midday sun

How to Make a Reservation

Reservations are highly recommended, particularly for:

  • Weekend lunches and dinners
  • Sunset hours (the most popular time)
  • Any visit during summer high season
  • Groups of four or more

How to book: Contact the restaurant directly through their website or by phone. For special occasions, mention this when booking to potentially secure a premium table.

Walk-ins: Welcome but risky, especially during peak hours. The terrace fills up quickly, and waiting times can be significant. If you do walk in, arriving early (before 14:00 for lunch or before 19:00 for dinner) improves your chances.

Sunrise at Gibralfaro Castle

Watch the sun rise over Malaga from the highest point in the city. The views stretch from the bullring to the port and beyond.

The castle opens at 9am, but staying at the Parador gives you access to the terrace at dawn - before anyone else arrives.

Where to Stay

Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro - The only hotel with direct castle access. Wake up and walk straight onto the terrace for sunrise.

Access & Getting There

Located at the far end of Muelle Uno, Trocadero Casa de Botes sits right by the water, across from the Centre Pompidou Malaga. Entry is at street level with no hotel or elevator access needed, making it easily accessible for everyone.

By foot: A scenic 15-minute walk from the city centre along the Muelle Uno promenade. The walk itself is pleasant, passing shops, restaurants, and the iconic colourful cube of the Pompidou.

By car: Parking is available at Muelle Uno, though it fills up quickly, especially on weekends. The underground parking at Paseo del Parque or the Port area offers additional options.

Our Verdict

Would we go back? Yes. We've been a few times and will definitely go again. While the drinks and food are on the pricier side, and it is a bit out of the way from the city centre, you can feel the stress melt away as you watch the yachts glide by. The live DJ is always a nice touch, and the service consistently impresses.

Best for: Special occasions, romantic dinners, impressing visitors, or treating yourself to Malaga's most stylish waterfront experience.

Skip if: You're watching your budget closely or prefer a more casual, unpretentious atmosphere. The prices here reflect the prime location and quality, and the vibe is definitely more polished than laid-back.

For a memorable meal with views that rival anywhere on the Costa del Sol, Trocadero Casa de Botes delivers. It's worth the splurge at least once.
