EFECTO Rooftop at Hotel Mariposa

Soho has the best street art in Málaga, and one rooftop looks straight down on it. EFECTO Rooftop sits atop the boutique Hotel Mariposa, on Calle Casas de Campos, and most locals still call it by its old name, Le Rooftop.

I came up for a tinto de verano before dinner and stayed past sunset. The terrace runs to a green, garden-inspired design, with chunky hanging chandeliers that light up after dark.

Is Le Rooftop the Same as EFECTO Rooftop?

Yes. It's one venue with two names, and locals often just call it the Hotel Mariposa bar. The hotel's own site still uses the Le Rooftop name in places, which causes the confusion.

The Vibe

The views here are close-up, not sweeping. From Soho you look straight onto the area's street art and graffiti, with the cathedral and rooftops behind. If you want a wide panorama over the bay, this isn't the bar for it.

The terrace splits into two halves. One side is a sun deck with loungers for daytime lazing, the other is the bar terrace with tables and the long cocktail counter. Funky figurative sculptures, including the white bull, mark the boundary between the two.

By foot: The hotel is centrally located in Soho, walkable from most city centre locations. Look for the street art-covered buildings nearby, and you'll know you're in the right area.

By car: Street parking in Soho can be challenging. The underground parking at Calle Alemania or near the Muelle Uno area is your best bet.

By public transport: Multiple bus lines serve the Alameda Principal area, which is a short walk away. The hotel is also accessible from the Maria Zambrano train station by foot or a quick taxi.

I'd go back. The design carries it, the burgers and pizzas mean you can stay for food without a formal dinner, and the Soho setting feels different from the polished hotel rooftops up in the centre. Just don't come expecting a wide skyline view.

Best for: Design lovers, couples after a stylish sundowner, and anyone wanting Soho's creative side from above.
