The best rooftop bars in Málaga for sunset, from a local who's watched golden hour from every terrace, with views, timings and cocktail picks.
The best rooftop bars in Málaga for sunset turn an ordinary evening into one you remember. I've watched golden hour drop behind the mountains from nearly every terrace in the city, drink in hand, cathedral glowing pink, the old town going gold below.
Some rooftops catch the light better than others. A few face the wrong way and miss it entirely.
This guide ranks the six where the sunset actually delivers, with the best time to arrive, what to order, and where to sit for the view.
Our Favourites
My top sunset pick is La Terraza Molina Lario, with cathedral views, creative cocktails, and seating that stays shaded as the sun drops.
For the highest vantage point, the 15th-floor AC Hotel Málaga Palacio gives you 360° views over the cathedral dome, port, mountains, and sea.
And if you want sunset cocktails beside an infinity pool, Lolita Skyview delivers.
Where Is the Best Place to Watch the Sunset in Málaga?
The best place to watch the sunset in Málaga is a west-facing rooftop in the old town, where the sun drops behind the mountains and the cathedral catches the last gold light. La Terraza Molina Lario and the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio terrace both line up with it.
Prefer to stay at ground level? Muelle Uno and Malagueta beach face the open water, so the horizon stays clear.
For the highest viewpoint in the city, climb to Gibralfaro Castle before the gates close. The view stretches from the bullring to the port.
What Time Is Sunset in Málaga?
Sunset ranges from about 6pm in winter to nearly 9:45pm at midsummer. Spring evenings land around 8 to 9pm, June and July bring the latest sunsets at 9:30 to 9:45pm, and autumn drops from about 8pm back to 6:30pm once the clocks change at the end of October. They jump forward at the end of March too, so sunset leaps an hour later overnight.
In the colder months several rooftops close for the season or cut their hours, so check before you go in winter. Golden hour, the hour before sunset, is when the terraces look their best, so arrive 60 to 90 minutes ahead to grab a west-facing table.
La Terraza Molina Lario

Located on the 8th floor of Hotel Molina Lario, the Terrace offers an open-air panorama that stretches from the port and sea to the rooftops of the old town. During sunset, much of the seating is shaded thanks to a nearby building that blocks the direct sun, ideal if you're after cooler spots with a view.
Tip: There are three elevators, but only one goes directly to the 8th floor. If there's a queue, take one of the other lifts to the 7th floor and walk up one flight of stairs. It's a handy shortcut that could help you grab a table before the crowd.

AC Hotel Málaga Palacio - Àtico Bar

When it comes to sunset in Málaga, few places compete with the 15th-floor terrace at Ático Bar & Restaurant, located atop the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio. From this elevated spot, you'll watch the sun dip behind the mountains, casting a golden glow over the cathedral, harbour, and rooftops of the old town, all with a drink in hand. There is limited shaded seating, and it gets hot in the sun, so take a hat and sunscreen during the Summer.
Tip: There's almost always a queue at peak time. If you arrive and the line's already long, don't risk missing sunset, consider heading to one of the other rooftop bars we've featured nearby.

Sunrise at Gibralfaro Castle
Watch the sun rise over Malaga from the highest point in the city. The views stretch from the bullring to the port and beyond.
“The castle opens at 9am, but staying at the Parador gives you access to the terrace at dawn - before anyone else arrives.”
Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro - The only hotel with direct castle access. Wake up and walk straight onto the terrace for sunrise.
Check AvailabilityLolita Skyview

Perched on the 8th floor of the Only YOU Hotel, Lolita Skyview pairs an infinity-edge plunge pool with views down Calle Larios to the cathedral dome and the marina. The west-facing terrace catches the changing light as the sky shifts, and a glass of red here as the pool goes mirror-still is hard to beat.
Tip: Each round typically comes with complimentary sweets and nuts in case you're hungry but not looking for a full meal.

Cañitas Maite at ME Málaga

Málaga's newest luxury rooftop sits atop ME Málaga at Plaza de la Merced, where Michelin-starred chefs Javier Sanz and Juan Sahuquillo run Cañitas Maite. As the sun dips, the Alcazaba fortress and Gibralfaro Castle glow golden directly ahead, creating one of the city's most dramatic sunset backdrops. The rooftop transforms from relaxed daytime terrace to intimate evening destination as the monuments light up against the darkening sky.
Tip: Order Spain's "Best Croquette" while watching the sunset. The Iberian Ham Croquette is legendary, and paired with a craft cocktail and those illuminated fortress views, it's hard to beat.

Nusa Cocktail bar

Slightly hidden along the top of the promenade at Muelle Uno, NUSA Cocktail Bar offers a Boho setting with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, Málaga's harbour, and the city's historic skyline. It's an ideal spot to unwind with expertly crafted cocktails while soaking in the coastal ambience.
Tip: While NUSA doesn't offer food service, its prime location within Muelle Uno means you're just steps away from a variety of dining options. Consider pairing your visit with a meal at a nearby restaurant to complete your evening.

H10 Croma Málaga

The rooftop at H10 Croma Málaga sits above the city with wide views over the old town rooftops and toward the mountains. It's a design-forward space, modern and clean, and the terrace catches the late afternoon light well.
Less crowded than AC Palacio, which makes it a good alternative if the bigger rooftops are packed. The cocktail menu is solid and the atmosphere stays relaxed through the evening.
Tip: A quieter alternative to the port-facing rooftops. Good if you want a sunset drink without competing for the best seat.
