Harbour and sea views, craft cocktails with street food bites, and a sunny, relaxed outdoor vibe.

La Terraza Surfera sits on the upper level of Muelle Uno, Malaga's waterfront promenade, with one of the best close-up harbour views in town. It's the rooftop terrace of Salao Street Food, and the surf theme runs through everything.

I came for sunset cocktails after a slow afternoon by the port. I stayed for the burgers and the boats.

There's a catch worth knowing. On busy weekends the best waterfront tables go fast, and the mega yachts can sometimes block part of the view. Come early and you'll have neither problem.

Below I cover the vibe, the cocktail and street food menu with real prices, the seating, the dress code, and how to get here. It's one of the most relaxed spots in my guide to the best rooftop bars in Málaga.

Best For

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun, casual rooftop with great street food and cocktails
  • Travellers wanting a bright terrace near the port with global bites and sunset views
  • Locals who enjoy mellow DJ sets, craft drinks, and a modern surfer-inspired setting
  • Foodies interested in international street food in a cool, design-forward space

Not Ideal For

  • Anyone after a quiet, polished fine-dining rooftop - this is loud, casual and busy
  • Visitors wanting high-rise panoramic views - it sits at promenade level, not up a tower

What Is La Terraza Surfera?

La Terraza Surfera is the open-air rooftop terrace of Salao Street Food, also branded Surf House, on the upper level of Muelle Uno in Málaga's port. It pairs harbour views with global street food and frozen cocktails, and it holds a 4.8 rating across more than 2,200 reviews.

Entry is free and it's walk-in only. No hotel stay, no guest list, no minimum spend.

That makes it an easy stop if you're already wandering the port. For a sit-down cocktail bar nearby, I'd point you to La Terraza de Valeria over in Soho instead.

The Vibe

A little hidden on the upper section of Muelle Uno, this rooftop is laid back and surf-inspired. The decor channels beach shack meets urban cool, with weathered wood, surfboards as decor, and that effortlessly relaxed energy you'd expect from a spot with "Surfera" in the name.

Expect attentive yet unpretentious service, a fun surf-inspired soundtrack, and endless waterfront views. By day, the atmosphere is breezy and relaxed, perfect for a long lunch watching the boats come and go. At night, things get more upbeat with DJs setting the mood as the harbour lights flicker on.

The crowd here is a mix of locals, tourists, and marina regulars, all united by a shared appreciation for good drinks, decent food, and seriously good views.

For Muelle Uno nightlife this is the laid-back end of the spectrum. It's a sundowner-and-DJ spot, not a club, so come for the golden hour rather than the small hours. If you want to compare the other waterfront options, see my guide to the rooftop bars near Málaga cruise port.

Opening Hours

  • Monday - Thursday: 12:00 - 00:00
  • Friday - Sunday: 12:00 - 01:00

Hours may vary seasonally, so it's worth checking ahead during winter months.

Drinks

The drinks menu leans tropical and refreshing, ideal for warm Malaga evenings. The signature cocktails are the ones to order:

  • Salao Mojito - around 9 euros
  • Jordi Smith - around 10 euros
  • Blue Vitamin Sea - around 10 euros
  • Frozen cocktails, strawberry daiquiris and piña coladas - 9-11 euros
  • Copa Victoria beer - from 4 euros
  • Wines by the glass - from 5 euros

Food

This is street food built for sharing, not a fixed dinner menu. Expect tacos, ceviches, burgers, fish and chips, and Asian-leaning plates that come out as you order them. Most dishes land between 10 and 18 euros, which is genuinely reasonable for a waterfront spot. I ordered a round of tacos and a burger to split, and it easily fed two with cocktails on the side.

The View & Seating

La Surfera has one of Malaga's best close-up harbour views, thanks to its prime position on Muelle Uno. You're right on the water, watching yachts and fishing boats come and go. On some days, the mega yachts can block part of the view, but honestly, gawking at them is half the entertainment.

Seating options include:

  • Relaxed loungers for long lazy afternoons
  • Beach-style low tables with cushioned seating
  • High-top tables for drinks and quick bites
  • Bar seating for solo visitors or couples

How to Make a Reservation

No reservation is required at La Terraza Surfera. The space operates entirely on a walk-in basis, which suits its casual atmosphere perfectly. However, if you're planning to visit on a sunny weekend or during summer evenings, arriving early is wise. The best tables with harbour views fill up quickly, especially around sunset.

Sunrise at Gibralfaro Castle

Watch the sun rise over Malaga from the highest point in the city. The views stretch from the bullring to the port and beyond.

The castle opens at 9am, but staying at the Parador gives you access to the terrace at dawn - before anyone else arrives.

Where to Stay

Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro - The only hotel with direct castle access. Wake up and walk straight onto the terrace for sunrise.

Dress Code

This is one of the most relaxed rooftops in Malaga when it comes to dress code.

What works:

  • Casual beachwear and sundresses
  • Shorts and t-shirts
  • Sandals and flip-flops
  • Swimwear with a cover-up

What doesn't work:

  • Honestly, almost anything goes here
  • Just avoid being completely barefoot

Access & Getting There

La Surfera is located at Muelle Uno, in the open-air shopping and dining complex near the Port of Malaga. You'll find it at the Salao Street Food Terrace area, just steps from Paseo de la Farola on the upper level.

By foot: A pleasant 10-minute walk from the city centre along the waterfront promenade.

By car: Limited parking is available at Muelle Uno, though it fills up quickly on weekends. The underground parking at Paseo del Parque is a good alternative.

By public transport: Several bus lines stop near the port area. It's also a short walk from the Alameda Principal bus hub.

Our Verdict

Would we go back? Yes. It's not too far out of the way, and who doesn't like taking a stroll down the promenade? I love that you can get unpretentious food here while enjoying some classy cocktails. The surf vibe feels genuine rather than forced, and the harbour views never get old.

Best for: Casual afternoon drinks with friends, sunset cocktails, or anyone who wants waterfront views without the stuffiness.

Skip if: You're looking for fine dining or a more polished rooftop experience. This is beach casual through and through.

If you're spending time around Muelle Uno anyway, there's no reason not to pop up for a drink. Time it for golden hour and it earns a place among my favourite sunset spots in Málaga. It's the kind of place where one cocktail easily turns into three. Stay near the harbour and make the most of Málaga's waterfront scene.
