Intimate rooftop plunge pool with sweeping city and cathedral views, offering a relaxed and stylish Mediterranean escape.

Áurea Rooftop Pool sits on the 6th floor of Hotel Sallés Málaga Centro. It's a compact plunge pool, and the cathedral tower and Gibralfaro Castle sit right there on the skyline.

I came up mid-morning when the deck was empty and had the whole terrace to myself. The pool itself is small, more for cooling off than swimming. What you're paying for is the view and the quiet.

Important: The pool is reserved for hotel guests, and there are no day passes. If you're not staying but still want the rooftop, the Áurea Rooftop Bar is open to the public. For pools you can visit on a day ticket, see our Málaga pool day pass guide.

Best For

  • Hotel guests seeking a private, tranquil spot to unwind above Málaga
  • Visitors during warmer months who appreciate a calm atmosphere and panoramic backdrop

Not Ideal For

  • Non-guests, as pool access is exclusive to hotel guests
  • Families with young children, since the vibe leans toward adults
  • Swimmers expecting a large or activity-focused pool

The Pool & Atmosphere

The Áurea pool is a compact plunge pool built for cooling off, not swimming laps. It feels more like a private terrace than a hotel pool, and because access is guests-only, it rarely fills up. I never saw more than a handful of people up there.

  • Calm and relaxed vibe throughout the day
  • Cushioned loungers around the pool deck
  • Shaded chill-out zone for escaping the sun
  • Low-key background music
  • Never feels crowded due to guest-only access
  • Children welcome but atmosphere leans adult

Poolside Food & Drinks

The rooftop bar serves drinks and light bites directly to your lounger.

  • Cocktails from around €10-12
  • Wine by the glass from €6
  • Beer from €4
  • Soft drinks and water available

Food

  • Mediterranean tapas and snacks
  • Light bites perfect for poolside grazing

Our Verdict

Áurea Rooftop Pool gives hotel guests a quiet escape above Málaga's old town. I'd come back for the cathedral views and the calm alone, even knowing the pool is too small for a proper swim. After a hot afternoon in the centre, that plunge and a cold drink on a lounger is exactly what you want.

Book here if: You want a quiet, exclusive rooftop pool experience with some of the best views in central Málaga, and you value a calm, adult-oriented atmosphere.

Look elsewhere if: You want a pool for actual swimming, you're travelling with young children who need space to splash, or you're looking for a day pass option without booking a room.
