I went on a Friday in June, mostly to see whether a hotel rooftop this central could still feel local. It does.

The cocktails are hit and miss, though, and the hours move with the season. Timing matters more here than at most rooftops.

Don't confuse it with Sky Bar at Hotel El Puerto, a separate poolside rooftop out on the seafront promenade. There's also an unrelated ground-floor Sky Bar on Paseo Marítimo. The Veramar one is the inland rooftop on Calle Málaga, a short walk from the train station.

The Vibe

The energy here is loose and dance-led once the sun drops.

ByCosmos runs themed nights through the summer: salsa and bachata sessions, the occasional white party, and Latin dance masterclasses out on the terrace.

I caught a bachata night, and the floor filled fast with locals and a few hotel guests who'd wandered up. It isn't a polished cocktail lounge, and the music can swallow conversation on event nights. Check the social feed first if you want a quiet drink instead.

The list is short: cocktails, beer, wine, and soft drinks, priced for a hotel rooftop rather than a destination bar.

Reviews on the cocktails are split. The strawberry cheesecake cocktail gets singled out as a favourite, while others find the mixes too sweet and watery for the price. Order a classic if you'd rather not gamble.

Food is limited to bar snacks, so eat before you head up.

The View & Seating

The view is the reason to climb up here. From the 10th floor, roughly 30 metres up, the terrace gives a near 360-degree sweep over Fuengirola.

You get the Mediterranean on one side and the Sierra de Mijas behind, with the town rooftops filling the gap. Sunset is the moment everyone waits for, when the light drops behind the hills and the sea turns gold.

Seating is casual: high tables with stools, plus a few low lounge sofas for groups. Arrive before sunset on a weekend if you want a spot by the rail, because those go first.

You don't need to be a hotel guest. Walk into Hotel Veramar on Calle Málaga and take the lift to the top floor.

Come as you are. This is a casual rooftop, not a dress-to-impress skybar.

Sky Bar Veramar sits atop Hotel Veramar on Calle Málaga in central Fuengirola, a couple of streets back from the beach. Enter through the hotel lobby and take the lift to the top.

It's an easy walk from most of town:

Our Verdict

Sky Bar Veramar works best as a sundowner spot, not a cocktail destination. The 10th-floor view earns the trip, and the dance nights give it a pulse most hotel rooftops lack.

The drinks are the weak point. The mixed reviews on the cocktails are fair, and the seasonal, evening-only hours mean it's shut when you might most want it.

Best for: sunset drinks, salsa and bachata nights, and anyone after a relaxed rooftop without dress codes or cover charges.

Skip if: you want a polished cocktail programme, year-round opening, or a quiet table well away from a dance floor.
