Benalmádena Stag Do: Rooftops, Boats and the 24-Hour Square

A Benalmádena stag do works because everything sits on one compact stretch of coast. The beach, the marina, the rooftop bars and the 24-hour Square are all close together, so nobody spends the weekend in taxis.

Spend the day on a boat out of Puerto Marina and the evening on the rooftops. Spend the night at the 24-hour Square or down at the marina.

I live in Málaga and know Benalmádena by day, which is when I've been up to every rooftop below. For the square and the marina after midnight, I've gone on what's well documented rather than pretend I closed the place down.

Is Benalmádena Good for a Stag Do?

Yes. Benalmádena fits a beach, a marina full of late bars and the 24-hour Square, about 20 bars and clubs round one plaza, into a small stretch of coast. It's around 20 minutes from Málaga airport, and a villa here splits well across a big group. Come between March and October, when the rooftops are open.

Where Is the Main Nightlife in Benalmádena?

Benalmádena's nightlife sits in two places: the 24-hour Square on the coast road, and Puerto Marina. The square is the loud one. The marina costs more and draws an older crowd.

The 24-hour Square's real name is Plaza Solymar. Around 20 bars and clubs face one small plaza, many of them below street level. Early in the evening the bars push 2-for-1 deals, and the clubs keep going until 7 or 8am. Hen and stag groups are a normal sight here.

Puerto Marina is where locals go. Have dinner on the quayside, move to a terrace bar, and finish in one of the marina's clubs. Two names come up again and again: Boal's Ice Bar, where the bar and even the glasses are made of ice and they hand you a coat at the door, and Kaleido, a club split into three sections with a different feel in each.

I haven't been out in either after midnight. Club line-ups change every season, so check what's open the week you go.

Stag Do Activities Worth Booking in Benalmádena

Most stag days in Benalmádena happen on the water, and the boats all leave from Puerto Marina. The first decision is whether you share a party boat or hire one for yourselves.

The Benalmádena boat party is the cheap option. It's three hours on a two-deck catamaran with a DJ and a dance floor downstairs, and drinks at the bar start at €3. You share it with other groups, it's 18+, and they check ID at the marina, so bring it.

A private boat is the stag-only version, with drinks and snacks included and nobody else on board. Package sites list a private catamaran from about £80 a head, and splitting one across a full group is how you get near that.

For the morning after, dolphin-watching cruises leave from the same marina. They run about 100 minutes, with a bar on board and a swim stop in summer.

Dolphin-Watching Cruise

🪂
Parasailing
Medium Chaos

🌊
Jet Skis
High Chaos

Race each other along the coast. Check the licence rules on each listing before you book.

🚤
Speedboat Ride
High Chaos

Short and fast along the coast, for the group that gets bored on a slow boat.

On land, the usual stag list is all within reach:

  • Quad biking: about £88 a head through package sites
  • Go-karting: about £70
  • Paintball: about £45
  • Water park: about £45
  • Paddle surf: about £36

Those are the package prices listed by Funktion Events in June 2026, per person.

For a quieter morning, the Teleférico cable car runs from Benalmádena Costa up Monte Calamorro, about 800 metres up and 15 minutes each way. It's a good hangover morning: you sit down and the view does the work.

Do Málaga's Stag Do Rules Apply in Benalmádena?

No. The costume rules that made the news are Málaga city's own ordinance, in force since November 2023. Benalmádena is a separate town with its own by-laws. Take the train into Málaga for the day, though, and walking about in underwear or carrying inflatable dolls or genital-shaped props can get you fined up to €750 after a police warning. My Málaga stag do guide has the details.

Where to Stay and Getting There

For a big group, a villa beats hotel rooms. There's no front desk, you get a pool and a garden, and the cost splits eight or ten ways. My stag do accommodation guide has four Benalmádena villas, including one that sleeps 15.

Málaga airport is about 20 minutes away by car or transfer. The C1 train also runs from the airport down the coast, stopping at Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel. From that station, Málaga's Centro-Alameda is about 33 minutes away, with a train every 30 minutes, so a day in the city is easy.
